Medicare for All Town Hall
June 13, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Healthcare is a human right! It should be affordable and available for everyone. However, in the richest country in the world, many workers still struggle to afford quality healthcare.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) introduced H.R. 1384, To establish an improved Medicare for All national health insurance program. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) introduced a companion bill in the Senate, S. 1129.
At this Town Hall Forum, city workers, state mental health workers along with workers from Cummins Diesel Engine Plant will be speaking out about their struggles for affordable healthcare.
Representatives from the Canadian union, Unifor, will also be present to speak about how their system of single-payer healthcare benefits workers.
We will also discuss the need for democracy on the job – full union rights like the right to collectively bargaining. We will be discussing how to build mass support for House Bill 710/Senate Bill 575 which would repeal General Statute 95-98 that bans public sector workers from collective bargaining.
State and Local elected officials will be present to hear workers speaking out including Senator Toby Fitch, Rep. Jean Farmer-Butterfield, and Rep. James Gailliard.
