It was Southerners–many of them African American–who demanded the desegregation of our hospitals and who played an outsized role in the movement to pass Medicare and Medicaid.
Today, the South has once again taken the lead in the fight for universal, single-payer healthcare with the launch of North Carolina’s first grassroots, statewide Medicare for All coalition.
The North Carolina Medicare for All Coalition consists of more than 20 organizations across the state that have banded together to support the creation and implementation of Improved and Expanded Medicare for All. All of the state chapters of Physicians for a National Health Program are members along with our friends at National Nurses United, UE 150 and the NC chapter of the NAACP.
We are proud to report that members of Health Care for All NC initiated the formation of the coalition. We plan to continue to play a primary role in the life of this vitally important organization, but we need your help.
- Sign the NC M4A Coalition’s open letter to congressional representatives demanding they support the passage of the Health Care Emergency Guarantee Act of 2020: https://www.ncm4a.com/campaign

- Save the date! The NC M4A Coalition will hold a virtual rally on Thursday, May 28 at 6:00 PM. Speakers will include North Carolinians affected by our profit-driven healthcare system as well as Nichel Dunlap from UE150 Charlotte, health insurance whistleblower Wendell Potter, Jasmine Ruddy from NNU’s Medicare for All campaign and Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler from the NC NAACP. Register for the rally here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZArcemvqT4vHdHZOWUEnbbLe9GqiVgKSzi2
